    The deficit of the general government sector was HUF 566.7 billion in 2012, 2.0% of GDP according to data reported to the EU on 29 March 2013 under the Excessive Deficit Procedure (EDP). The revenues of the general government sector amounted to HUF 13 147.8 billion and expenditures to HUF 13 741.2 billion. The deficit in the 4th quarter of 2012 was HUF 166.6 billion, HUF 348.8 billion lower than in the 4th quarter of 2011.

    The deficit of the general government sector in the first three quarters of 2012 was HUF 375 billion, 1.8% of GDP, which was HUF 639 billion lower, or 3.1 percentage points less as a proportion of GDP compared to the deficit – calculated without the transfer of wealth of private pension funds to the state budget – in the same period of the previous year. The deficit, much lower than in the base period, was due to the dynamic rise of revenues and the decline of expenditures.

    According to preliminary data the deficit of the general government sector in the first half of 2012 was HUF 393 billion, 2.8% of GDP. It is HUF 251 billion lower, or 1.9 percentage points less as a proportion of GDP compared to the deficit – calculated without the transfer of wealth of private pension funds to the state budget – in the same period of 2011. The lower-than-base-period deficit stems from revenues increasing at a higher rate than expenditures.

The lower-than-base-period deficit stems from revenues increasing at a higher rate than expenditures.

    The general government sector had a surplus of HUF 1205 billion, 4.3% of GDP in 2011 according to data reported to the EU on 30th March 2012 under the Excessive Deficit Procedure (EDP). According to preliminary data the annual surplus of the general government sector in 2011 – in line with the “ESA” methodology – was somewhat different for methodological reasons: it was HUF 1180 billion, 4.2% of GDP.

    The general government sector had a surplus of HUF 1537 billion in the first three quarters of 2011. Including the transfer of wealth of private pension funds to the state budget revenues amounted to HUF 11,631 billion and expenditures to HUF 10,095 billion in the general government sector. The deficit in the 3rd quarter of 2011 was HUF 404 billion, HUF 212 billion higher than in the 3rd quarter of 2010.

    According to preliminary data the general government sector had a surplus of HUF 1940 billion in the first half of 2011. Including the transfer of wealth of private pension funds to the state budget revenues amounted to HUF 8464 billion and expenditures to HUF 6524 billion. The deficit in the second quarter of 2011 reached HUF 288 billion, 4.1% of GDP. The deficit decreased by HUF 147 billion, 2.4 percentage points of GDP compared to the second quarter of 2010.

    According to preliminary data the general government sector had a surplus of HUF 2202 billion in the first quarter of 2011. Including the transfer of the wealth of private pension funds to the state budget revenues amounted to HUF 5475 billion and expenditures to HUF 3273 billion.

    The deficit of general government reported to the EU on 31st March 2011 under the Excessive Deficit Procedure (EDP) is HUF 1132 billion, 4.2% of GDP. According to preliminary data the annual deficit of the general government sector in 2010 - in line with the "ESA" methodology - was somewhat different for methodological reasons: HUF 1153 billion, 4.3% of GDP. The deficit decreased by HUF 9 billion, 0.2 percentage point of GDP compared to 2009.

    In the first three quarters of 2010 the deficit of the general government sector amounted to HUF 945 billion, 4.7% of GDP, and increased by HUF 128 billion, 0.5 percentage point of GDP compared to the same period of the previous year, which was due to decreasing revenues and increasing expenditures. The deficit in the third quarter of 2010 came to HUF 190 billion, 2.8% of GDP, and decreased by HUF 67 billion, 1.2 percentage points of GDP compared to the third quarter of 2009.
