Cattle stock increases further

The increase of the cattle stock, lasting since 2010, continued further. At the same time, the pig stock lessened by 219 thousand and the number of sheep by 36 thousand over the past year. Due to avian influenza the poultry stock decreased by 4.5 million compared to a year earlier, within which the number of chickens became 1.3 million fewer, that of ducks 2.1 million lower, the number of geese 759 thousand fewer and that of turkeys 295 thousand lower.

On 1 June 2017:

The number of cattle was 22 thousand higher compared to 1 June 2016 and reached 864 thousand. The cow stock was up by 15 thousand over a year.

The number of pigs was 2.8 million, 219 thousand fewer than one year earlier. The number of breeding sows decreased by 7 thousand compared to the stock in June 2016.

The number of chickens was 35.5 million, 1.3 million fewer than a year earlier. The stock of laying hens was 10.2 million, lessening by 395 thousand over a year.

The sheep stock was 1.2 million, 36 thousand fewer, while the number of ewes was 812 thousand, 22 thousand more than in June 2016.

In June 2017 compared to December 2016:

Cattle and cow stocks both increased, the former by 12 thousand and the latter by 11 thousand.

The number of pigs became 100 thousand fewer and the number of breeding sows 2 thousand lower.
