Prices increased by 2.9% in February

Consumer prices were 2.9% higher on average in February than a year earlier. The highest price rises in this period were measured for other goods including motor fuels as well as for alcoholic beverages and tobacco.

In February 2017 compared to February 2016:

Consumer prices increased by 2.9% on average. Food prices rose by 1.9%, within which the price of sugar by 14.0%, pork prices by 10.0%, cheese prices by 5.7% and the prices of seasonal food items (potatoes, fresh vegetables and fruits) by 4.9%. The price of poultry meat was cut by 17.4% and that of eggs by 7.2%. A higher-than-average price rise of 8.7% was recorded for other goods (pharmaceutical products, motor fuels, household products and recreational goods), and, within this, consumers paid 19.9% more for motor fuels. An average price rise of 2.8% was measured for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 1.5% for services and 0.6% for clothing and footwear, and the prices of electricity, gas and other fuels increased by 0.3%. Consumer durables cost 0.4% less for consumers.

In February 2017 compared to January 2017:

Consumer prices were up by 0.4% on average. A price rise of 1.0% was recorded for food, within which 6.2% for seasonal food items, 3.2% for other meat preparations, 2.1% for chocolate and cocoa, 1.4% for sugar and 1.2% for bread. The price of poultry meat decreased by 2.5% and that of eggs by 2.1%. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco cost 0.4%, consumer durables 0.3% and services 0.2% more on average for consumers. The prices of electricity, gas and other fuels as well as other goods increased slightly, by 0.1%, within which latter the prices of pharmaceutical products rose by 0.7% and those of motor fuels by 0.2%. Consumers paid 1.2% less for clothing and footwear.

In January–February 2017 compared to the same period of the previous year:

Consumer prices went up by 2.6% on average.
