Prices up by 2.2%

Consumer prices were 2.2% higher on average in April 2017 than this time last year. The highest price rises over the past year were measured for other goods, including motor fuels, as well as for alcoholic beverages and tobacco.

In April 2017 compared to April 2016:

Consumer prices increased by 2.2% on average. Food prices rose by 1.9%, within which the price of sugar by 12.3%, pork prices by 12.0%, the price of rolls by 6.0%, that of other meat preparations by 5.6%, cheese prices by 4.9% and bread prices by 3.8%. The price of poultry meat was cut by 15.7%, that of flour by 3.8% and eggs prices by 3.4%. A higher-than-average price rise of 5.0% was recorded for other goods (pharmaceutical products, motor fuels, household products and recreational goods), within which 10.7% for motor fuels. Consumers paid on average 2.9% more for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, 1.7% more for services and 0.6% more for electricity, gas and other fuels. Consumer durables cost 0.6% and clothing and footwear 0.1% less for consumers.

In April 2017 compared to March 2017:

Consumer prices increased by 0.4% on average. Food prices rose by 0.6%, within which the price of tea by 6.6%, the prices of seasonal food items (potatoes, fresh vegetables and fruits) by 3.4%, coffee prices by 1.2%, the prices of chocolate and cocoa by 1.2%, poultry meat prices by 0.9% and bread prices by 0.7%. Price reductions were observed for flour (–2.3%), cheese (–1.7%) and edible oil (–1.4%) among others. Due to seasonal changes the highest price increase (1.8%) was recorded for clothing and footwear. A price rise of 0.7% was measured for services and of 0.6% for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, while the prices of electricity, gas and other fuels were up by 0.1%. The prices of other goods decreased by 0.5%, within which those of motor fuels by 1.4%, while the prices of pharmaceutical products rose by 0.5%. Consumer durables cost 0.3% less for consumers.

In January–April 2017 compared to the same period of the previous year:

Consumer prices went up by 2.5% on average.
