Prices up by 2.5%

Consumer prices were 2.5% higher on average in September 2017 than this time last year. The highest price rises over the past year were measured for alcoholic beverages and tobacco as well as motor fuels and food.

In September 2017 compared to September 2016:

Food prices rose by 3.1%, within which the price of butter by 16.5%, that of cheese by 9.5%, pork prices by 8.5%, the price of coffee by 7.1%, bread prices by 5.9% and the price of other meat preparations by 5.8%. The price of poultry meat was cut by 12.9%. The highest price rise of 6.0% on average was recorded for alcoholic beverages and tobacco. The price of other goods (pharmaceutical products, motor fuels, household products and recreational goods) was up by 2.7% on average, within which the price of motor fuels rose by 5.3% and that of school-books – due to an expansion in the number of students receiving free school-books – decreased by 58.7%. Services prices became 1.8% and the prices of electricity, gas and other fuels 1.0% higher, within which latter the price of firewood went up by 8.8%, while the prices of electricity, natural and manufactured gas and purchased heat were unchanged. Consumers paid 1.1% more for clothing and footwear. Consumer durables cost 0.1% less for consumers.

In September 2017 compared to August 2017:

Consumer prices increased by 0.1% on average. Food prices were reduced by 0.1%, dominantly due to the 4.0% price decrease of seasonal food items (potatoes, fresh vegetables and fruits). (Food prices excluding this group rose by 0.4% on average.) Butter became more expensive by 3.8%, milk by 2.3% and cheese by 0.9%. Out of the main groups of consumption the highest, 1.8% price increase was recorded for clothing and footwear, due to seasonal changes. The price of other goods became 0.6%, within which that of motor fuels 2.5% higher on average. The prices of electricity, gas and other fuels rose by 0.4%, within which the price of firewood went up by 3.9%. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco prices went up by 0.3% and the prices of consumer durables by 0.1%. The prices of services were lowered by 0.4%, within which those of recreational services by 6.4%.

In January–September 2017 compared to the same period of the previous year:

Consumer prices rose by 2.4% on average.
