Prices up by 2.2%

Consumer prices were 2.2% higher on average in October 2017 than this time last year. The highest price increases over the past year were measured for alcoholic beverages and tobacco as well as food.

In October 2017 compared to October 2016:

Food prices rose by 3.3%, within which butter became 17.3%, cheese 8.1%, pork 6.4%, bread 6.0%, coffee 5.6%, other meat preparations 5.3% and egg 4.6% more expensive. The price of poultry meat was cut by 12.8%. The highest price rise of 6.8% on average was recorded for alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Service prices became 1.6%, the prices of electricity, gas and other fuels 1.3% and, within these latter, the price of firewood 11.6% higher, while the prices of electricity, natural and manufactured gas and purchased heat were unchanged. The price of other goods (pharmaceutical products, motor fuels, household products and recreational goods) was up by 0.8% on average, within which that of motor fuels by 1.3%. Consumers paid 0.3% more for clothing and footwear and 0.1% more for consumer durables.

In October 2017 compared to September 2017:

Consumer prices increased by 0.3% on average. Food prices rose by 0.5%, within which egg became 4.3%, seasonal food items (potatoes, fresh vegetables and fruits) 2.5%, flour 2.2%, butter 1.8%, cheese 1.6% and milk 1.4% more expensive. Out of the main groups of consumption the highest, 1.7% price increase was recorded for clothing and footwear, due to seasonal changes. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco prices went up by 1.0% on average. Electricity, gas and other fuels became 0.4% and, within these, firewood 3.8% more expensive. The price of other goods became 0.1% higher on average. The prices of consumer durables and services were both lowered by 0.1%.

In January–October 2017 compared to the same period of the previous year:

Consumer prices rose by 2.4% on average.
