Prices increase by 2.1% in December and by 2.4% in 2017 on average

Consumer prices were 2.1% higher on average in December 2017 than a year earlier. The highest price increases in this period were measured for alcoholic beverages and tobacco as well as food. In 2017 as a whole, consumer prices rose by 2.4% on average compared to the previous year.

In December 2017 compared to December 2016:

Food prices rose by 3.5%, within which eggs became 39.4%, butter 15.1%, milk products 7.9%, bread 7.7%, coffee 5.6%, other meat preparations 5.1% and pork 5.0% more expensive. The price of sugar was cut by 12.5% and that of poultry meat by 11.8%. The highest price rise of 6.8% on average was recorded for alcoholic beverages and tobacco. The prices of electricity, gas and other fuels became 1.6%, within which the price of firewood 13.3% and that of butane and propane gas 11.3% higher, while the prices of electricity, natural and manufactured gas and purchased heat were unchanged. The price of services was up by 1.1%, that of other goods (pharmaceutical products, motor fuels, household products and recreational goods) by 0.8%, within which the price of motor fuels by 0.5% on average. Consumers paid 0.5% more for clothing and footwear and 0.4% less for consumer durables.

In December 2017 compared to November 2017:

Food prices rose by 0.1%, within which eggs became 19.3%, fresh vegetables 6.0% and milk 2.0% more expensive, while fresh domestic and tropical fruits cost 6.4%, sugar 4.8% and flour 2.8% less for consumers. Out of the main groups of consumption the highest, 0.3% price increase was recorded for services. Electricity, gas and other fuels became 0.2%, within which firewood 1.3% more expensive. The prices of both consumer durables and alcoholic beverages and tobacco lessened by 0.1% and those of clothing and footwear by 0.2%. The price of other goods was lowered by 0.4%, within which that of motor fuels by 1.2%.

In 2017 compared to the previous year:

Consumer prices went up by 2.4% on average, and, within this, 2.8% more was paid for food. The highest price rise of 4.8% was recorded for alcoholic beverages and tobacco. The price of other goods rose by 3.6%, that of services by 1.5%, the prices of electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.8% and those of clothing and footwear by 0.5% on average. Consumers paid 0.3% less for consumer durables.
