Prices increased by 1.9% in February

Consumer prices were 1.9% higher on average in February 2018 than a year earlier. The highest price increases in this period were measured for alcoholic beverages and tobacco as well as food.

In February 2018 compared to February 2017:

Food prices rose by 3.9%, within which eggs became 37.1%, butter 13.5%, pasta products 9.9%, milk products 7.4%, milk 6.2% and bread 6.0% more expensive. Sugar became 14.2% cheaper. The highest price increase of 6.4% on average was recorded for alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Electricity, gas and other fuels turned 1.6%, within which firewood 14.4% and butane and propane gas 7.9% more expensive, the prices of electricity, natural and manufactured gas and purchased heat were unchanged. The price of services was up by 1.0% on average. Consumers paid 0.3% less for clothing and footwear, 0.5% less for other goods (pharmaceutical products, motor fuels, household products and recreational goods), within which 2.0% less for motor fuels, and 1.0% less for consumer durables.

In February 2018 compared to January 2018:

Consumer prices increased by 0.2% on average. Food prices rose by 0.4%, within which seasonal food items (potatoes, fresh vegetables and fruits) as well as other meat preparations cost 3.7% more, while eggs 9.3% and sugar 2.0% less for consumers. The price of services was up by 0.4%, that of alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 0.3% and the price of electricity, gas and other fuels by 0.1%. The prices of consumer durables and other goods were cut by 0.2%, within which latter 0.5% less was paid for motor fuels than a month earlier. Clothing and footwear became 1.7% cheaper due to the end-of-season sale.

In January–February 2018 compared to the same period of the previous year:

Consumer prices went up by 2.0% on average.
