4 million 607 thousand people in employment

In May 2021, the average monthly number of employed persons aged 15-74 was 4 million 607 thousand, 55 thousand more than in the same period of the previous year and 47 thousand more than in the previous month. In March-May 2021, the average number of employed persons was 4 million 594 thousand, 44 thousand more than in the same period of the previous year. Employment in the domestic primary labour market increased, while employment among those working abroad decreased.

In May1 2021:

The average monthly number of employed persons2 was 4,607,000, which is 47,000 more than in the previous month and 55,000 more than in May last year.

The employment rate for 15-64 year olds was 72.6%, 0.7 percentage points higher than in April and 1.6 percentage points higher than in May last year.

The number of employed persons was 44 thousand more, at 4 million 594 thousand. While the number of people working in the primary labour market in Hungary increased by 65 thousand, the number of public workers4 decreased slightly (by 4 thousand) and the number of members of households in Hungary working abroad decreased by a larger amount (17 thousand).

Among the 15-64 age group, 4 million 497 thousand people were classified as employed, with an employment rate of 72.3%. For men, the number of people in employment increased by 20 thousand to 2 million 405 thousand, and their employment rate grew by 1.4 percentage points to 77.4%. For women, employment increased by 13 thousand to 2 million 91 thousand and their employment rate rose by 1.3 percentage points to 67.2%.

In the young age group (15-24), the number of employed persons was 272 thousand, and their employment rate increased by 0.6 percentage points to 27.6%. The employment rate increased by 0.9 percentage points to 86.2% for the so-called prime working age population (25-54 years) and by 2.9 percentage points to 61.4% for the older age group (55-64 years).
