3.7% increase in tourism nights at accommodation establishments
In November 2018, the number of nights spent by international tourists grew by 1.6% and that of nights spent by domestic tourists by 5.9% compared to the same period of the previous year. Total gross revenues grew by 7.1% at current prices in commercial accommodation establishments. In January–November 2018, commercial accommodation establishments saw a 4.0% growth in tourism nights and a 9.5% rise in gross revenues compared to the same period of 2017.
In November 2018, compared to the same month of the previous year:
The number of international tourist arrivals grew by 4.8% to nearly 420 thousand. The number of tourism nights they spent increased by 1.6% to 990 thousand. The number of tourism nights increased in boarding houses, community hostels and camping sites, while it was stagnant in hotels and fell in bungalows. More than two thirds of tourism nights were spent by foreigners in the Budapest-Central Danube Region, 2.5% more than in the same month of the previous year.
The number of domestic tourist arrivals grew by 8.2% and exceeded 460 thousand. The number of tourism nights they spent grew by 5.9% to more than 990 thousand. The number of tourism nights increased in each type of accommodation except for community hostels. The rate of expansion was 4.5% in hotels realizing about eight-tenths of domestic tourism nights. With the exception of Lake Tisza Region, domestic guests spent more nights in each tourist region. The rate of expansion was 20% in Central Transdanubia.
Room occupancy in hotels increased by 1.0 percentage points to 58.2%.
The total gross revenue of accommodation establishments increased by 7.1% to HUF 37 billion at current prices; within this, accommodation fee revenues increased by 6.8% (to HUF 20 billion).
Széchenyi Recreation Card holders spent nearly HUF 1.4 billion, 2.5% more in commercial accommodation establishments.
On 30 November 2018, compared to the same date of the previous year:
2,688 commercial accommodation establishments were in operation with more than 79 thousand available rooms and 220 thousand bed-places. The number of rooms grew by 2.5% and of bed-places by 2.1%.
In January–November 2018, compared to the same period of the previous year:
Commercial accommodation establishments registered a total of 11.7 million arrivals and 29.0 million tourism nights, up 5.5% and 4.0% respectively. Foreign guests spent 2.5% more (14.4 million) and domestic guests 5.5% more (14.7 million) nights in commercial accommodation establishments.
Room occupancy in hotels increased by 2.1 percentage points to 62.1%.
Total gross sales in commercial accommodation establishments grew by 9.5% at current prices to a total of HUF 472 billion. Within this, accommodation revenues increased by 8.3% to HUF 280 billion.
