Number of tourism nights increased by 3.7% and sales revenues by 13%

In June 2019, the number of nights spent by international tourists increased by 3.7% and that of nights spent by domestic tourists by 3.8% compared to the same period of the previous year in commercial accommodation establishments (hotels, boarding houses, camping sites, bungalows and community hostels). Considering seasonal and calendar effects, the number of foreign tourism nights grew by 2.2% and of domestic tourism nights by 1.2%. Total gross sales revenues rose by 13% at current prices in commercial accommodation establishments.

In June 2019, compared to the same month of the previous year:

The number of international tourist arrivals increased by 5.0% and of international tourism nights by 3.7%. 586 thousand guests spent nearly 1.5 million tourism nights in commercial accommodation establishments. The number of tourism nights grew in each type of accommodation except for boarding houses. Foreign guests spent more than half of their tourism nights in the Budapest-Central Danube Region, 2.7% more than a year earlier. The number of tourism nights increased by 5.5% in the Balaton region.

The number of domestic tourist arrivals grew by 2.8% and the number of tourism nights by 3.8%. The number of tourist arrivals was 698 thousand and of tourism nights they spent was 1.6 million. The value of the latter indicator increased in hotels and camping sites, while it decreased slightly in boarding houses, community hostels and bungalows. Balaton, Budapest-Central Danubia and Northern Hungary were the most popular regions for domestic guests. Tourism nights increased in all tourist regions except Lake Tisza, which has the lowest number of visitors.

The occupancy rate of hotels increased by 1.1 percentage points to 65.8%.

Total gross sales revenues were up by 13% (to HUF 54 billion), within which accommodation fee revenues grew by 15% (to HUF 33 billion) at current prices.

With Széchenyi Recreation Card, cardholders paid a total of HUF 2.7 billion in commercial accommodation establishments, an increase of 58% compared to the low base.

On 30 June 2019, compared to the same date of the previous year:

64 units fewer, 3,343 commercial accommodation establishments were in operation with 92 thousand available rooms and 307 thousand bed-places.

The number of tourism nights registered by commercial accommodation establishments increased by 0.4% to a total of 13 million. International guests spent 0.8% (6.7 million) and domestic guests 0.1% (6.3 million) more tourism nights at commercial accommodation establishments.

Room occupancy in hotels increased by 0.1 percentage point to 57.2%.

The total gross sales revenues of commercial accommodation establishments were HUF 237 billion, 8.9% more at current prices.
