Surplus on external trade in goods amounts to EUR 245 million in April

In April 2019, the export volume was 3.2% and the import volume 5.7% higher than in the same period of the previous year. The surplus was EUR 245 million, EUR 238 million less than in April 2018. In January–April 2019, the surplus on the balance of external trade in goods amounted to EUR 2.1 billion, EUR 532 million less than a year earlier.

In April 2019:

The value of exports amounted to EUR 8.9 billion (HUF 2,839 billion) and that of imports to EUR 8.6 billion (HUF 2,753 billion).

In April 2019 compared to the same month of the previous year:

The value of exports rose by 3.8% and that of imports by 7.0% in EUR terms.

The surplus on external trade in goods went down by EUR 238 million. (The balance is EUR 17 million more than the value published in the first estimate.)

The forint (HUF) price level of external trade in goods increased by 3.6% in imports and by 3.2% in exports compared to the same month of the previous year. The terms of trade worsened by 0.4%. The forint exchange rate weakened by 3.1% against the euro and by 13% against the dollar.

Calculated at prices in April 2018, the exports of machinery and transport equipment grew by 3.2% and their imports by 2.0%. The exports of road vehicles rose by nearly one-tenth and their imports slightly compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. The growth was due on export side to changes in trade in passenger cars and their parts and on import side to changes in trade in parts of motor vehicles. The exports of telecommunications and sound recording and reproducing apparatus and equipment increased by nearly one-fifth and their imports by more than one-fifth. The growth of both exports and imports was due to changes in trade in apparatus for the transmission or reception of voice, images or other data. In addition, changes in the imports of parts of telephone sets and in the exports of car radio were also dominant.

The export volume of manufactured goods was up by 1.0% and their imports by 6.7%.

The export volume of fuels and electric energy increased by 1.9% and their import volume by 20%, which was consistent with changes in the exports of natural and manufactured gas as well as electric energy and in the imports of mainly petroleum, petroleum products and related materials.

The volume of crude materials rose by 19% in exports and by 8.4% in imports.

The export volume of food, beverages and tobacco expanded by 10% and their imports by 11%.

The volume of exports to EU member states went up by 6.1% and that of imports from there by 1.5%. The surplus on external trade in goods increased by EUR 330 million and amounted to EUR 1.1 billion. These countries accounted for 82% of exports and 72% of imports.

In extra-EU trade, the volume of exports decreased by 8.6%, while that of imports rose by 19%. The balance of external trade in goods with this group of countries deteriorated by EUR 568 million and showed a deficit of EUR 816 million.

In January–April 2019:

The value of exports amounted to EUR 36.6 billion (HUF 11,665 billion) and that of imports to EUR 34.5 billion (HUF 10,993 billion).

In January–April 2019 compared to the same period of the previous year:

The volume of exports was up by 5.0% and that of imports by 6.4%.

The surplus on the balance of external trade in goods went down by EUR 532 million and amounted to EUR 2.1 billion.

The forint price level of external trade in goods increased by 2.7% in exports and by 3.3% in imports compared to the first four months of the previous year. The terms of trade worsened by 0.6%. The forint depreciated by 2.4% against the euro and by 11% against the dollar.
