Outstanding expansion in the housing market of small settlements
In 2017, 14,389 new dwellings were built, 44% more than a year earlier. The number of dwellings to be built based on issued dwelling construction permits and simple declarations grew by 20% to 37,997 compared to 2016.
In 2017, compared to the previous year:
The number of dwellings built did not increase in Budapest and grew by more than one and a half times in towns and villages.
Within dwelling construction, the share of individuals was nearly equal to that of enterprises. Growth stopped in Budapest, as the number of dwellings built for sale and rental decreased by 8.6%.
The average floor-area of homes put to use increased by 6 sq m to 100 sq m.
The total number of dwellings to be built based on issued dwelling construction permits and declarations increased by an average of 20% to 37,997, within this a more than 1.5-fold increase was registered in Budapest. Towns of county rank saw a 9% decline. Builders used simple declarations in 36% of cases. This share was 10% in Budapest and grew higher moving towards lower level territorial units. In three quarters of cases in villages, the construction of new homes was initiated by a simple declaration.
Based on new construction permits (declarations), 8% more, i.e. a total of 13,216 residential buildings are planned to be built, while the number of permits issued for non-residential buildings (5,105) decreased by 23% compared to the previous year.
