More dwellings put to use, fewer construction permits
In the first three quarters of 2018, 10,218 new dwellings were built, 28% more than a year earlier. Based on issued dwelling construction permits and simple declarations, the number of homes to be built fell by 6.2% to 26,655 compared to the first three quarters of 2017.
In the first three quarters of 2018:
28% more dwellings were built compared to the same period of the previous year. Home construction grew outstandingly in villages and above average in Budapest.
Dwelling construction saw no change in the even distribution between individuals and enterprises.
54% of dwellings built in new buildings were put to use in detached houses, 37% in multi-dwelling buildings and 5.3% in residents’ parks.
The average floor-area of homes put to use increased by 3 sq. m to 100 sq. m.
The total number of dwellings to be built based on issued dwelling construction permits and declarations decreased by 6.2% to 26,655 compared to the previous period. Budapest saw a 25% fall, towns of county rank no change, other towns a 9% growth and the villages a 7.4% rise in the number of dwellings to be built. Builders used simple declarations in 43% of cases. This share was 8.5% in Budapest and grew higher moving towards lower level territorial units reaching 79% in villages.
Based on new construction permits (declarations), 1.2% more, i.e. a total of 10,322 residential buildings are planned to be built, while the number of permits issued for non-residential buildings decreased year-on-year by 19% to 3,225 units.
