Agricultural producer prices up by 2.5%

Agricultural producer prices were up by 2.5% in March 2018 compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, which was made up of increases of 2.6% in the price of crop products and 2.2% in the price of live animals and animal products. In January–March 2018 agricultural input prices were 2.0% higher than a year earlier.

In March 2018 compared to March 2017:

Cereals prices were up by 10%.

The price of vegetables was 7.4% and that of potatoes 19% lower.

The producer price level of live animals was practically unchanged, that of animal products was 6.2% higher.

The price of pigs for slaughter was cut by 3.2%, after a low point in procurement in January (HUF 342 per kilogramme) it was HUF 376 per kilogramme in March.

Milk prices were 3.2% and eggs prices 17% higher.

In January–March 2018 compared to the same period of the previous year:

Agricultural producer prices rose by 1.3%, within which the price of crop products by 0.9% and that of live animals and animal products by 1.9%.

The input prices of agricultural production were 2.0% higher, which resulted from a 1.2% increase in the price level of intermediate consumption and a 6.5% rise in the price level of agricultural investments.

Animal feedingstuffs prices increased by 2.4%, within which the price of straight feedingstuffs by 4.3% and that of compound feedingstuffs by 1.0%.

Fertilisers prices were 1.6% higher, and despite rising steadily over the last half year, they were still significantly lower than the price level in 2015.

The price of plant protection products was up by 2.0% and that of veterinary medicinal products by 1.2%.

Energy and lubricants prices increased by 0.5%, while seeds prices were 5.4% lower.

Within the price of agricultural investments, that of investments in buildings rose by 8.3% and the price of investments in machinery and equipment by 5.8%.

The value of the terms of trade (the agricultural producer price index divided by the agricultural input price index) was 99.3%.
