Unemployment rate decreased to 3.8%

In the period of November 2017–January 2018, the average number of unemployed people was 174 thousand, 24 thousand fewer than a year earlier, and the unemployment rate decreased by 0.5 percentage point to 3.8%. The unemployment rate was lower for men than for women, and among men, the value of the indicator improved, while a slight increase was observed among women.

In November 2017-January 2018, compared to a year before:

The number of the unemployed among 15–74 year-old men decreased by 27 thousand to 84 thousand, and their unemployment rate by 1.1 percentage points to 3.3%. Regarding women, the changes happened within the limits of the sampling error: the number of the unemployed increased to 90 thousand, and their unemployment rate to 4.3%.

The number of the unemployed among people aged 15–24 decreased to 35 thousand, and their unemployment rate to 10.6%, yet one-fifth of unemployed belonged to this age group. The unemployment rate of the age group 25–54, i.e. persons belonging to the ‘best working age’ decreased by 0.3 percentage point to 3.4% and that of people aged 55–64 by 1.5 percentage points to 2.6%.

The average duration of unemployment decreased to 15.0 months; 38.3% of unemployed people had been searching for a job for one year or more, i.e. were long-term unemployed.

At the end of January 2018, compared to a year earlier:

According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (http://eu.munka.hu/), the total number of registered jobseekers decreased by 7.3% to 267 thousand.
