Unemployment rate was 3.4%

In the period of June–August 2019, the average number of unemployed people was 157 thousand, and the unemployment rate was 3.4%. The improvement of indicators was higher among women than among men.

In June–August 2019, compared to a year before:

The unemployment among 15–74 year-old men decreased within the limits of sampling error, the number of unemployed was 82 thousand and the unemployment rate 3.2%. Regarding women, the number of the unemployed declined by 12 thousand to 75 thousand, and the unemployment rate by 0.6 percentage point to 3.6%.

Among people aged 15–24, the number of the unemployed was 34 thousand and their unemployment rate 10.3%. More than one-fifth of the unemployed belonged to this age group. The unemployment rate of the 25–54 age group, i.e. people belonging to the ‘best working age’, decreased by 0.5 percentage point to 2.9%, and that of people aged 55–74 was 2.5%.

The average duration of unemployment was 14.1 months; 37.4% of unemployed people had been searching for a job for one year or more, i.e. were long-term unemployed.

At the end of August 2019, compared to a year earlier:

According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the total number of registered jobseekers decreased by 2.4% to 245 thousand.
