Unemployment rate was 3.5%

In the period of August–October 2019, the average number of unemployed people was 164 thousand, and the unemployment rate was 3.5%. Women saw improvement, nevertheless men were characterized by lower unemployment.

In August–October 2019, compared to a year before:

The unemployment among 15–74 year-old men did not change essentially, the number of unemployed was 84 thousand and the unemployment rate 3.3%. Regarding women, the number of the unemployed declined by 8 thousand to 80 thousand, and the unemployment rate by 0.4 percentage point to 3.8%.

Among people aged 15–24, the number of the unemployed increased by 7.4 thousand to 43 thousand and their unemployment rate by 2.5 percentage points to 13.0%. More than a quarter of the unemployed belonged to this age group. The unemployment rate of the 25–54 age group, i.e. people belonging to the ‘best working age’, decreased by 0.3 percentage point to 3.0%, and that of people aged 55–74 decreased by 0.7 percentage point to 1.8%.

The average duration of unemployment was 11.2 months; 32.0% of unemployed people had been searching for a job for one year or more, i.e. were long-term unemployed.

At the end of October 2019, compared to a year earlier:

According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the total number of registered jobseekers decreased by 2.0% to 239 thousand.
