Unemployment rate was 4.0%

In August 2021, the number of unemployed1 was 194 thousand and the unemployment rate was 4.0%2. In the June–August 2021 period, the average number of unemployed persons was 200 thousand and the unemployment rate was 4.1%.

In June–August 2021, compared to a year before:

The number of unemployed persons aged 15-74 decreased by 15 thousand and their unemployment rate by 0.3 percentage points. Among men, the number of unemployed persons was 104 thousand and the unemployment rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 4.0%, while among women, the number of unemployed persons decreased to 96 thousand and the unemployment rate decreased by 0.5 percentage points to 4.2%.

The number of unemployed 15-24 year olds increased to 51 thousand, and their unemployment rate rose by 1.4 percentage points to 15.9%. More than a quarter of all unemployed were young people. The unemployment rate for 25-54 year olds fell by 0.5 percentage points to 3.4% and for 55-74 year olds by 0.2 percentage points to 2.7%.

The average time spent looking for a job was 8.8 months and 34.6% of the unemployed had been looking for a job for at least a year.

According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the number of registered jobseekers decreased by 25.8% to 256 thousand.
