In October 2023, the average number of employed persons1 aged 15-74 increased by 37 thousand to 4 million 757 thousand2 compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the August–October 2023 period, the number of employed persons was 4 million 745 thousand. While the number of people working in the domestic primary labour market was up by 26 thousand and that of those working abroad grew by 12 thousand, the number of public workers decreased by 8 thousand.
4 million 621 thousand people aged 15–64 were classified as employed, bringing the employment rate for the age group to 75.1%. The number of men in employment was 2 million 439 thousand, while their employment rate was virtually unchanged at 79.1%. Among women, the number of employed persons was 2 million 182 thousand and the employment rate increased by 0.6 percentage points to 71.0%.

In the youth age group (15-24 years), 273 thousand people were employed and their employment rate was 27.6%. Among the so called ‘prime’ working-age population (25–54 years old), the employment rate remained essentially unchanged at 88.2%, while in the older age group (55–64 years old) it rose by 3.5 percentage points to 69.7%.
