Unemployment rate at 4.0%

In February 2023, the number of unemployed persons1 was 196 thousand and the unemployment rate was 4.0%2.

December 2022 – February 2023 compared to a year before:

The number of unemployed persons aged 15–74 increased by 15 thousand to 199 thousand, while their unemployment rate rose by 0.3 percentage points to 4.1%. Among males, the number of unemployed persons was 108 thousand, and the unemployment rate was up by 0.4 percentage points to 4.2%. Among females, the number of unemployed people was 91 thousand, and the unemployment rate was 4.0%.

The number of unemployed people aged 15–24 years was 34 thousand, with an unemployment rate of 11.2%. This age group accounted for 17.0% of all unemployed. The unemployment rate for the 25–54 age group rose by 0.4 percentage points to 3.7%, while that for the 55–74 age group increased by 0.2 percentage points to 3.2%.

The average duration of job search was 9.0 months, and 30.7% of the unemployed had been looking for a job for at least a year.

According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the number of registered jobseekers decreased by 2.8% to 245 thousand.
