Unemployment rate at 3.8%

In June 2023, the number of unemployed persons1 was 187 thousand and the unemployment rate was 3.8%2.

April–June 2023 compared to a year before:

In the April–June 2023 period, the number of unemployed persons aged 15–74 increased by 36 thousand to 193 thousand, while their unemployment rate rose by 0.7 percentage points to 3.9%. Among males, the number of unemployed persons was 104 thousand, and their unemployment rate was up by 0.6 percentage points to 4.0%. Among females, the number of unemployed people was 89 thousand, and their unemployment rate rose by 0.8 percentage points to 3.8%.

The number of unemployed people aged 15–24 years was 41 thousand, with an unemployment rate of 13.9%. This age group accounted for 21.3% of all unemployed. The unemployment rate for 25-54 year olds rose by 0.6 percentage points to 3.4%, while for 55-74 year olds it was essentially unchanged at 2.8%.

The unemployment rate was highest in Northern Great Plain (6.2%), and lowest in Central Transdanubia (1.8%). Compared to the same period of the previous year, the rate increased in all regions, the most in the Pest region (by 1.5 percentage points).

The average duration of job search was 9.5 months, and 35.9% of the unemployed had been looking for a job for at least a year.

According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the number of registered jobseekers decreased by 3% to 224 thousand.
