Unemployment rate at 4.0%

In August 2023, the number of unemployed persons1 was 195 thousand and the unemployment rate was 4.0%2.

June–August 2023 compared to a year before:

In the June–August 2023 period, the number of unemployed persons aged 15–74 increased by 34 thousand to 200 thousand, while their unemployment rate rose by 0.7 percentage points to 4.1%. Among males, the number of unemployed persons was 103 thousand, and their unemployment rate was up by 0.4 percentage points to 4.0%. Among females, the number of unemployed people was 96 thousand, and their unemployment rate rose by 1.0 percentage points to 4.2%.

The number of unemployed people aged 15–24 years was 43 thousand, with an unemployment rate of 13.6%. This age group accounted for 21.5% of all unemployed. The unemployment rate for 25-54 year olds rose by 0.6 percentage points to 3.5%, while for 55-74 year olds it was practically unchanged at 3.0%.

The average duration of job search was 9.3 months, and 36.6% of the unemployed had been looking for a job for at least a year.

According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the number of registered jobseekers decreased by 1% to 229 thousand.
