Number of tourist arrivals (nearly 2.5 million) up 1.9% year-on-year and tourism nights (around 6.7 million) down 1.4%
In July 2025, nearly 2.5 million guests spent around 6.7 million tourism nights at tourist (commercial, private and other) accommodation establishments1. Tourist arrivals were up by 1.9% and tourism nights down by 1.4% in number compared to a year earlier. In January-July 2025, the number of domestic and international guests arriving to tourist accommodation establishments was 2.1% and 11% higher than in the same period of the previous year.

Overall, the number of tourist arrivals increased by 1.9% and that of tourism nights spent at tourist accommodation establishments decreased by 1.4%. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of arrivals expanded by 3.9% and that of tourism nights fell by 0.7% compared to July 2024. 65% of guests arrived at commercial accommodation establishments, where their number grew by 1.7% from the previous year. Private and other accommodation establishments recorded 2.5% more tourist arrivals than a year earlier.
The number of domestic tourist arrivals and of domestic tourism nights were 0.9% and 2.7% lower respectively than in the same month of the previous year. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of domestic arrivals grew by 1.5% and that of domestic tourism nights fell by 3.9% compared to July 2024. The 1.3 million domestic guests spent 3.8 million tourism nights at tourist accommodation establishments, within which commercial accommodation establishments registered 850 thousand tourist arrivals and 2.3 million tourism nights. Hotels received 62% of the latter arrivals, where their number grew by 2.1% compared to a year earlier. The number of domestic tourist arrivals in private and other accommodation was 2.3% lower than in July 2024. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the number of domestic arrivals increased the most in Greater Budapest2 (by 7.8%), while it decreased most in the Győr and Pannonhalma tourism area and the Sopron region (both by 9.7%). The number of domestic arrivals to tourist accommodation establishments was 12% higher in Budapest and 5.3% lower at Lake Balaton.
The number of international tourist arrivals was up by 5.6% and that of international tourism nights by 0.5% compared to the same month of the previous year. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of international arrivals grew by 8.9% and that of international tourism nights by 2.3% compared to July 2024. The 1.1 million international guests having arrived at tourist accommodation establishments spent nearly 2.9 million tourism nights there, of which commercial accommodation establishments registered 736 thousand tourist arrivals and around 1.8 million tourism nights. Hotels received 74% of the latter arrivals, where their number was 4.0% higher than a year earlier. The number of foreign tourist arrivals in private and other accommodation establishments was 9.1% higher than in July 2024. Compared to the same month last year, the number of international arrivals increased most (by 16%) in the Szeged region and the tourism area of Tokaj and Nyíregyháza and decreased most (by 9.2%) in the Eger region. The number of international arrivals to tourist accommodation was 10% higher in Budapest and 3.2% lower at Lake Balaton.
A total of 38,357 tourist accommodation establishments, within which 3,045 commercial and 35,312 private or other accommodation establishments welcomed guests.
Of commercial accommodation establishments, 1,028 hotels and 1,187 boarding houses were open for part or all of July.
The total gross sales revenue of tourist accommodation establishments amounted to HUF 139.9 billion, 1.9% more at current prices than a year earlier.
Széchenyi Recreation Card was used by cardholders to spend around HUF 7.3 billion, 1.1% less at current prices compared to the same month of the previous year, at tourist accommodation establishments.

Tourist accommodation establishments recorded a total of nearly 10.7 million tourist arrivals, up 6.4%.
The number of domestic and international tourist arrivals was up by 2.1% and 11% respectively (nearly 5.4 million and 5.3 million) in tourist accommodation establishments.
