  • Rise in tourist arrivals, increasing tourist demand, International tourism demand, Quarter 4 2011

    In quarter 4 2011, tourist arrivals continued to increase, albeit at a decreasing rate, and a 6% year-on-year increase was seen in the number of overnight tourists. Tourist consumption in HUF was significantly higher than a year ago. Hungarian people made more trips abroad, for the most part with no overnight stay. As a result of these processes, the balance of passenger traffic increased by 15% year-on-year.

    In quarter 3 2011, the rise in inbound arrivals that started a year ago continued, while no change was seen in the average length of stay of inbound visitors. There was a decrease in the consumption of foreign visitors in Hungary in spite of an increase in the number of trips. The number of Hungarian outbound trips - due to same day trips - continued to decrease with a lower overall spend on foreign trips.

    In the first half of 2011, there was a 4% increase in the number of inbound foreign visitors (17.6 million) compared with the same period of 2010. Foreigners spent a total of 42 million days in Hungary, a 4% increase year-on-year. During this period, their total consumption in Hungary decreased slightly by 1% to HUF 523 billion (EUR 1944 million).

    In quarter 1 2011, there was a 1% increase in the number of inbound foreign visitors (7.6 million) compared with the same period of 2010. Foreigners spent a total of 16.6 million days in Hungary, a 1% increase year-on-year. During this period, their total consumption in Hungary decreased by 4% to HUF 208 billion (EUR 808 million). Nearly two-thirds of this (HUF 131 billion) was related to tourist consumption.
  • International tourism demand, Quarters I-IV (January-December) 2010

    In 2010, there was a 2% decrease in the number of inbound foreign visitors (39.9 million) compared with a year earlier. Foreigners spent a total of 95.7 million days in Hungary, a 1% decrease year-on-year. During this period, their total consumption in Hungary decreased by 1% to HUF 1190 billion. Nearly 70% of this (HUF 828 billion) was related to tourist consumption. Meanwhile, Hungarian travellers spent HUF 658 billion abroad, a 15% decrease year-on-year.
