  • Over two million mobile internet subscriptions, Telecommunications, Internet, Quarter 4, 2011

    The number of internet subscriptions and mobile subscriptions continued to increase to 4 million and 2 million, respectively, by the end of December 2011. In contrast with this, the mobile phone market seems to be saturated with a small year-on-year decrease in the number of mobile subscriptions. At the same time, subscribers had more but shorter mobile calls than in fixed-line phoning. Data traffic in the mobile network increased by nearly one third year-on-year.

    At the end of quarter 3 2011, the number of mobile subscriptions was stagnant compared to the previous period. Subscribers had more but shorter mobile calls compared with fixed-line phoning. The popularity of cable and other fixed VoIP phoning was indicated by the fact that the number of lines showed a sustained increase. The number of internet subscriptions continued to grow as a result of a dynamic increase in mobile internet subscriptions.

The popularity of cable and other fixed VoIP phoning is indicated by the fact that one fifth of total fixed voice call duration and more than one quarter of the declining number of fixed lines are classified to VoIP.

During the year, internet subscriptions increased in number by 567 thousand and already exceeded 3.4 million. Mobile internet accounted for almost 1.4 million.

While cable and other fixed VoIP phoning is getting more popular, fixed lines further decreased in number. During a year, internet subscriptions increased in number by 539 thousand and already exceeded 3.3 million. Mobile internet accounted for more than 1.3 million.
