  • Decrease in domestic goods transport - stagnant passenger traffic, Transport performances, 2011

    International goods transport was able to offset a drop in domestic road performances, so a small increase was seen in transport performances measured in freight tonne kilometres in 2011. In addition to flat growth in passenger traffic, the performance expressed in passenger kilometres - owing to the air passenger traffic - increased by 3%. The number of passenger cars registered for the first time continued to increase, and nearly 40% of them were second hand ones.

    In quarter 3 2010, domestic performances continued to decrease in both road and rail goods transport, which accounted for the highest proportion, while international transport saw an increase. Interurban passenger transport was used by passengers in a more intensive way. Passenger traffic at Budapest-Ferenc Liszt International Airport, as a result of newly appeared or returning air carriers, saw an upswing supporting tourism.

    In the first half of 2011, the performance expressed in freight tonne kilometres - mainly due to international transport - grew by 3%, while the volume of goods transported fell by 4% compared with the same period a year ago. In interurban passenger transport, both the number of passengers and the performance expressed in passenger kilometres stagnated. Passenger traffic at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport grew by 12% to 4 million persons.

    In quarter 1 2011, the performance expressed in freight tonne kilometres - mainly due to international transport - grew by 6%, while year-on-year there was no significant change in the volume of goods transported. Interurban passenger transport showed no change in the number of passengers and a 1.5% decrease in performance expressed in passenger kilometres. Passenger traffic at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport grew by 8% to 1.7 million persons.

    In 2010, the performance expressed in freight tonne kilometres showed no significant change (it grew by 0.7%), while the volume of transported goods fell by 8% compared to 2009. In interurban passenger transport, the number of passengers and the performance expressed in passenger kilometres slightly increased by 2 and 1% respectively. Passenger traffic at Budapest Airport grew by 1% to 8.2 million persons.
