    According to preliminary data, in the first quarter of 2013, 21,032 children were born, 4.8 percent fewer than a year earlier. The number of deceases was 33,608, which meant a decrease of 6.1 percent compared to January–March 2012. Natural decrease was by 1,116 persons lower than in the previous year, it amounted to 12,576 persons.

The number of deceases was 21,615, which meant a decrease of 5.7 percent compared to January–February 2012. Natural decrease was by 539 persons lower than in the previous year, it amounted to 7,565 persons.
