Prices increased by 4.4% in February
Consumer prices were 4.4% higher on average in February 2020 than a year earlier. Significant price rises were measured over the past year for motor fuels, alcoholic beverages and tobacco as well as food.
In 12 months, compared to February 2019:
Food prices went up by 7.0%, within which pork prices became 27.3%, the price of other meat preparations 21.5%, salami, sausages and ham prices 11.0%, the price of seasonal food items (potatoes, fresh vegetables and fruits) 10.3%, milk prices 9.4%, bread prices 7.6% and the price of meals at restaurants and canteens 7.2% higher. The price of alcoholic beverages and tobacco rose by 7.3% on average, within which tobacco prices by 11.3%. Consumers paid 3.8% more for services, within which rent increased by 9.9% and the price of recreation in the country by 8.3%. Motor fuels became 7.7% more expensive.
In one month, compared to January 2020:
Consumer prices rose by 0.3% on average. Food prices were up by 1.5% on average, within which the price of seasonal food items (potatoes, fresh vegetables and fruits) became 5.6%, that of other meat preparations 4.6%, salami, sausages and ham prices 2.6%, chocolate and cocoa prices 2.4% and milk prices 2.3% higher. Consumers paid 0.5% more for services and 0.4% more for alcoholic beverages and tobacco, within which latter beer became 1.0% more expensive. The price of motor fuels was cut by 4.3%. Clothing and footwear cost 0.7% less for consumers due to the end-of-season sale.
In January–February 2020 compared to the same period of the previous year:
Consumer prices went up by 4.5% on average.
