4 million 559 thousand people in employment

4 million 559 thousand people aged 15-74 were employed in April 2021, up 36 thousand from the same period last year and down 57 thousand from last month. In the February-April 2021 period, the average number of persons employed was 4 million 575 thousand, the highest moving average of the last three months. Employment increased in the domestic primary labour market and decreased among public workers and workers abroad.

In April1 2021:

The average monthly number of employed persons2 was 4 million 559 thousand, 36 thousand more than in April last year and 57 thousand less than in the previous month.

71.9% of 15–64-year-olds were employed, down 0.6 percentage points from March and up 1.3 percentage points from last April.

In February – April 2021, compared to a year before3:

The number of employed people was 9 thousand (0.2%) lower4 at 4 million 575 thousand. Employment increased by 28 thousand in the primary labour market, while in the group of public workers it decreased by 11 thousand and among members of Hungarian households working abroad fell by 25 thousand.

4 million 485 thousand people aged 15–64 were considered employed, the employment rate of this age group was 72.1%. For men, the number of employed persons remained essentially unchanged at 2 million 401 thousand, while their employment rate grew by 0.6 percentage points to 77.2. For women, employment fell by 13 thousand to 2 million 84 thousand, while their employment rate increased by 0.5 percentage points to 66.9%.

The number of employed people in the young age group (15–24 years) decreased by 9 thousand to 271 thousand, and their employment rate by 0.5 percentage points to 27.5%. Among the so-called best working age population (25–54 years) the employment rate stagnated at 85.8%. In the older, 55–64 age group, the number of the employed increased by 9 thousand to 711 thousand and the employment rate by 2.9 percentage points to 61.5%.
