4 million 692 thousand people in employment

In June 2021, the average monthly number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4 million 692 thousand, 98 thousand more than in the same period of the previous year and 85 thousand more than in the previous month. In April–June 2021, the average number of employed persons was 4 million 619 thousand, 63 thousand more than in the same period of the previous year. Employment increased in the domestic primary labour market, but fell among those working abroad.

The average monthly number of employed persons2 was 4,692,000, which is 85,000 more than in the previous month and 98,000 more than in June last year.

The employment rate for 15–64 year olds was 74.1%, 1.5 percentage points higher than in May and 2.5 percentage points higher than in June last year.

The number of employed persons was 63 thousand more, at 4 million 619 thousand. While the number of people working in the primary labour market in Hungary increased by 76 thousand, the number of members of households in Hungary working abroad decreased (18 thousand).

Among the 15–64 age group, 4 million 524 thousand people were classified as employed, with an employment rate of 72.8%. For men, the number of people in employment increased by 25 thousand to 2 million 410 thousand, and their employment rate grew by 1.6 percentage points to 77.6%. For women, employment increased by 36 thousand to 2 million 115 thousand and their employment rate rose by 2.0 percentage points to 68.0%.

In the young age group (15–24), the number of employed persons was 267 thousand, and their employment rate increased by 0.7 percentage points to 27.1%. The employment rate increased by 1.4 percentage points to 86.9% for the so-called prime working age population (25–54 years) and by 3.4 percentage points to 62.2% for the older age group (55–64 years).

In terms of employment, Budapest had the highest employment rate for 15–64 year olds, with 78.0%, while the lowest rate was found in Northern Hungary, with 67.1%. Compared to the same period of the previous year, employment increased in all regions, with the highest rate increase in Southern Great Plain (3.8 percentage points) and the lowest in Northern Hungary.
