Average gross earnings amounted to HUF 431,300

In October 2021, full-time employees’ average gross earnings were HUF 431,300, average net earnings without tax benefits reached HUF 286,800; both were 8.5% higher than a year earlier. Gross earnings grew by 6.9% in the business sector, in the budgetary sector the increase was higher, 9.4%, due to planned wage raises in certain government branches. In January–October 2021, average gross earnings reached HUF 428,900, average net earnings amounted to HUF 285,200, both rising by 8.5% compared to the same period of the previous year.

October 2021:

Full-time employees’ average gross earnings (as defined by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office) – at enterprises employing at least 5 persons, at budgetary institutions and at non-profit organisations that are significant in terms of employment – were HUF 431,300; excluding fostered workers HUF 441,500.

Average net earnings excluding tax benefits reached HUF 286,800 and HUF 295,500 including them.

Both average gross earnings and average net earnings excluding tax benefits increased by 8.5%. Average net earnings including tax benefits grew by 8.3% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Regular average gross earnings (without premiums and one-month bonuses) are estimated at HUF 409,200, 8.4% higher than a year before.

Gross median earnings reached HUF 350,100, surpassing by 7.6% the previous year’s value.

January–October 2021:

Full-time employees’ average gross earnings (as defined by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office) at enterprises employing at least 5 persons, at budgetary institutions and at non-profit organisations that are significant in terms of employment amounted to HUF 428,900 and excluding fostered workers to HUF 439,500. Average net earnings reached HUF 285,200 excluding tax benefits and HUF 293,800 including them.

Both average gross earnings and average net earnings without tax benefits went up by 8.5%, average net earnings including tax benefits grew by 8.2% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

Average gross earnings reached HUF 441,000 in the business sector, HUF 402,600 in the budgetary sector, HUF 397,000 in the non-profit sector, representing growths of 7.7%, 9.6% and 12.9%, compared to the same period of the previous year. Due to planned wage raises in certain government branches – including the pay raise of doctors, judges and prosecutors, and employees of nurseries – the growth of average wages in the budgetary sector exceeded that of the national economy. Several educational institutions have been reclassified from the budgetary into the non-profit sector, following a change in their controlling authority, leading to a significant increase in average earnings in the non-profit sector.

The highest average gross earnings were recorded in the financial and insurance activities section (HUF 746,000) and the lowest ones for accommodation and food service activities (HUF 262,800).

Average gross earnings amounted to HUF 467,700 for full-time male employees and to HUF 392,500 for full-time female employees, representing increases of 8.7% for males and 8.3% for females over a year.

Regular average gross earnings (without premiums and one-month bonuses) are estimated at HUF 401,600, being 8.8% higher than a year earlier.

Real earnings rose by 3.7%, along with a 4.6% year-on-year increase in consumer prices.

Gross median earnings were HUF 345,200, surpassing by 9.2% the previous year’s value.
