Average gross earnings amounted to HUF 546,000

In February 2022 full-time employees’ gross average earnings were HUF 546,000, average net earnings with tax benefits reached HUF 374,800. Average gross earnings grew by 31.7%, while average net earnings with tax benefits were 31,9% higher than a year earlier. The payment of the “service premium” (the so-called “firearms money”) for the army and the law enforcement personnel corresponding to six-month salary; the previously scheduled wage increases as well as the significant minimum wage and minimum wage for skilled workers growth contributed to the increase in average earnings. Regular average gross earnings (total earnings excluding bonuses and premiums) amounted to HUF 445,000, 14.5% higher then a year earlier.

January–February 2022:

Full-time employees’ average gross earnings (as defined by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office) at enterprises employing at least 5 persons, at budgetary institutions and at non-profit organisations that are significant in terms of employment amounted to HUF 506,700 and excluding fostered workers to HUF 518,300.

Average net earnings reached HUF 337,000 excluding tax benefits and HUF 348,500 including them.

Due to the payment of the “service premium” (the so-called “firearms money”) for the army and the law enforcement personnel, corresponding to six-month salary, and to planned wage raises in certain government branches, the growth of gross average wages in the budgetary sector - especially in public administration and defence - significantly exceeded that of the national economy average. Several educational institutions have been reclassified from the budgetary into the non-profit sector, following a change in their controlling authority in August 2021, leading to a significant increase in average earnings in the non-profit sector.

The highest average gross earnings were recorded in public administration and defence (HUF 926,200) and the lowest ones for accommodation and food service activities (HUF 303,700).

Average gross earnings amounted to HUF 562,400 for full-time male employees and to HUF 448,900 for full-time female employees, representing increases of 25.4% for males and 18.8% for females over a year.
