Sales of retail shops grew by 3.8%

In November 2021, the volume of retail trade in both raw and calendar-adjusted data was 3.8% higher than in the same month of the previous year. In November, calendar-adjusted sales volumes rose by 2.1% in specialised and non-specialised food shops, by 4.9% in non-food retailing and by 6.2% in automotive fuel retailing compared to the same period last year. In January–November 2021, the volume of sales – also according to calendar adjusted data – was 3.2% higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year.

In November 2021, compared to the same period of the previous year, adjusted for calendar effects:

The volume of domestic retail sales increased by 3.8%.

The volume of sales increased by 2.1% in specialized and non-specialized food retailing. The volume of sales increased by 2.2% in non-specialized food and beverages shops accounting for 76% of food retailing and by 1.6% in specialized food, beverage and tobacco stores.

The turnover of non-food retailing increased by a total of 4.9%. Sales volumes rose by 29% in textiles, clothing and footwear shops, by 28% in second-hand goods shops, by 11% in pharmaceutical, medical goods and cosmetics shops, by 6.6% in books, computer equipment and other specialized stores and by 2.9% in non-specialized shops dealing in manufactured goods. Sales volumes fell by 7.4% in furniture and electrical goods stores.

Mail order and internet retailing, which covers a wide range of goods and accounts for 12% of retail sales, - compared to the high base in November last year - grew in volume, by 0.9%.

Sales volumes in automotive fuel stations increased by 6.2%.

Sales in motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts and accessories stores not belonging to retail data increased by 0.3%.

In November 2021:

Domestic retail sales amounted to HUF 1,276 billion at current prices.

Specialized and non-specialized food shops accounted for 43% of all domestic retail sales, while the relevant figures for non-food retail trade and retail trade of petrol stations were 41% and 16% respectively.

In January–November 2021, compared to the same period of the previous year, adjusted for calendar effects:

The volume of retail trade increased by 3.2%.

The volume of sales rose by 2.1% in specialized and non-specialized food shops, by 4.5% in non-food retail trade and by 4.4% in automotive fuel retail trade.
