Sales of retail shops grew by 15.8%
In April 2022, the volume of sales in retail trade increased by 15.7% according to raw data and by 15.8% when adjusted for calendar effects compared to the same period of the previous year. In April, calendar-adjusted sales volumes rose by 7.1% in specialised and non-specialised food shops, by 15.4% in non-food retailing and by 37.3% in automotive fuel retailing compared to the same period last year. In January–April 2022, the volume of sales – also according to calendar adjusted data – was 11.8% higher than in the corresponding period of the previous year.
In April 2022, compared to the same period of the previous year, adjusted for calendar effects:
The volume of domestic retail sales increased by 15.8%.
The volume of sales increased by 7.1% in specialized and non-specialized food retailing. The volume of sales increased by 6.8% in non-specialized food and beverages shops accounting for 76% of food retailing and by 8.0% in specialized food, beverage and tobacco stores.
The turnover of non-food retailing increased by a total of 15.4% in volume. Sales volumes rose by 67% in textiles, clothing and footwear shops, by 51% in second-hand goods shops, by 29% in books, computer equipment and other specialized stores, by 14%-14% in pharmaceutical, medical goods and cosmetics shops and furniture and electrical goods stores and by 11% in non-specialized shops dealing in manufactured goods.
The volume of mail order and internet retailing accounting for 8.1% of all retail sales and involving a wide range of goods fell by 4.2%.
The volume of sales in automotive fuel stations increased by 37.3%.
Sales in motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts and accessories stores not belonging to retail data increased by 1.5%.
In April 2022:
Domestic retail sales amounted to HUF 1,373 billion at current prices.
Specialized and non-specialized food shops accounted for 46% of all retail sales, while the relevant figures for non-food retail trade and retail trade of petrol stations were 36% and 18% respectively.

The volume of retail trade increased by 11.8%.
The volume of sales rose by 2.6% in specialized and non-specialized food shops, by 16.4% in non-food retail trade and by 30.0% in automotive fuel retail trade.
