Number of tourism nights increased by 2.0% and sales revenues by 7.0%

In February 2019, the number of nights spent by international tourists grew by 3.3% and that of nights spent by domestic tourists by 0.6% compared to the same period of the previous year. Total gross revenues grew by 7.0% at current prices in commercial accommodation establishments.

In February 2019, compared to the same month of the previous year:

The number of international tourist arrivals increased by 4.7%, and of tourism nights by 3.3%. The number of guests arriving at accommodation establishments was nearly 327 thousand and they spent a total of 803 thousand nights. The number of tourism nights increased in all types of accommodation except for bungalows with the lowest turnover in February. Nearly seven tenths of tourism nights were spent by foreigners in the Budapest-Central Danube Region, 5.4% more than in the same month of the previous year.

The number of domestic tourist arrivals grew by 0.9% and was close to 369 thousand. The number of tourism nights they spent grew year-on-year by 0.6% to 789 thousand. The number of domestic tourism nights increased in boarding houses, bungalows and camping sites, while it fell in hotels and community hostels.

Room occupancy in hotels was 50.8%.

The total gross sales revenue of commercial accommodation establishments increased by 7.0% to HUF 28 billion at current prices; within this, accommodation fee revenues increased by 5.7% (to HUF 14 billion).

Széchenyi Recreation Card holders spent a total of more than HUF 1.2 billion, 16% more in commercial accommodation establishments.

On 28 February 2019, compared to the same date of the previous year:

72 units more, 2,534 commercial accommodation establishments were in operation with nearly 76 thousand available rooms.

In January-February 2019, compared to the same period last year:

Commercial accommodation establishments registered 0.7% more, a total of 3.1 million tourism nights. International guests spent 1.1% and domestic guests 0.2% more tourism nights (1.6 million and 1.5 million respectively) in commercial accommodation establishments.

Room occupancy in hotels fell by 0.4 percentage points to 47.3%.

The total gross sales revenue of commercial accommodation establishments at current prices increased by 8.2% to HUF 57 billion.
