Number of tourism nights decreased by 4.4%, sales revenues went up by 3.2%

In March 2019, the number of nights spent by international tourists decreased by 4.1% and that of nights spent by domestic tourists by 4.7% compared to the high base in the same period of the previous year. When seasonally and calendar adjusted, international tourism grew by 1.7% and the domestic one by 3.7%. The total gross sales revenues of commercial accommodation establishments rose by 3.2% at current prices.

In March 2019 compared to the same month of the previous year:

The number of international tourist arrivals decreased by 2.8% and the number of international tourism nights by 4.1%. The 405 thousand guests having arrived at accommodation establishments spent there a total of 998 thousand nights. The number of tourism nights fell in all types of accommodation, which could be due to Easter being in March in the previous year.

The number of domestic tourist arrivals diminished by 1.7% and that of domestic tourism nights by 4.7%. The number of tourist arrivals was 451 thousand, and the tourism nights they spent numbered 965 thousand. Domestic tourism was influenced by the long weekend of 15 March lasting 4 days and by the start of Easter holidays, starting with Good Friday, and of the school spring break both falling on March in the base year.

Room occupancy in hotels was 55.2%.

Total gross sales revenues were up by 3.2% (to HUF 35 billion), within which accommodation fee revenues by 0.5% (to HUF 19 billion) at current prices.

SzĂ©chenyi Recreation Card holders paid by the card 13% more, a total of HUF 1.6 billion at commercial accommodation establishments.

On 31 March 2019 compared to the same date of the previous year:

22 units fewer, 2,608 commercial accommodation establishments were in operation with 78 thousand available rooms.

In January–March 2019 compared to the same period of the previous year:

Commercial accommodation establishments registered 1.2% less, a total of 5.1 million tourism nights. International guests spent 1.0% and domestic ones 1.4% less tourism nights (2.6 million and 2.5 million, respectively) at commercial accommodation establishments.

Room occupancy in hotels decreased by 0.8 percentage point to 50.0%.

The total gross sales revenues of commercial accommodation establishments were HUF 92 billion, 6.3% more at current prices.
