Number of tourism nights increased by 3.2% and sales revenues by 9.2%

In April 2019, the number of nights spent by international tourists increased by 4.0% and that of nights spent by domestic tourists by 2.3% compared to the same period of the previous year. Considering seasonal and calendar effects, foreign guest turnover fell by 1.7% and domestic guest turnover by 1.4%. Total gross sales revenues rose by 9.2% at current prices in commercial accommodation establishments. Hotels, boarding houses, camping sites, bungalows and community hostels are classified as commercial accommodation establishments.

In April 2019, compared to the same month of the previous year:

The number of international tourist arrivals increased by 2.5% and of international tourism nights by 4.0%. 489 thousand guests spent a total of 1.3 million tourism nights in commercial accommodation establishments. The number of guest nights increased in each type of accommodation except for community hostels. Foreign guests spent two-thirds of their tourism nights in the Budapest-Central Danube Region, where the rate of expansion was 3.6%.

The number of domestic tourist arrivals grew by 2.2% and of domestic tourism nights by 2.3%. The number of tourist arrivals was 474 thousand and of tourism nights they spent was more than 1 million. The value of the latter indicator increased in hotels, boarding houses and bungalows, while fell in community hostels and camping sites. In April, the camping sites have only a small amount of traffic.

Room occupancy in hotels was 61.4%.

Total gross sales revenues were up by 9.2% (to HUF 42 billion), within which accommodation fee revenues grew by 10% (to HUF 25 billion) at current prices.

SzĂ©chenyi Recreation Card holders spent 30% more, a total of HUF 1.9 billion, at commercial accommodation establishments.

On 30 April 2019, compared to the same date of the previous year:

34 units fewer, 2,857 commercial accommodation establishments were in operation with 83 thousand available rooms.

In January–April 2019, compared to the same period of the previous year:

Commercial accommodation establishments registered 0.2% more, a total of 7.4 million tourism nights. International guests spent 0.6% more and domestic ones 0.4% less tourism nights (3.8 million and 3.5 million, respectively) at commercial accommodation establishments.

Room occupancy in hotels decreased by 0.5 percentage point to 52.9%.

The total gross sales revenues of commercial accommodation establishments were HUF 134 billion, 7.2% more at current prices.
