Number of tourism nights decreased by 3.2% and sales revenues grew by 4.7%

In July 2019, the number of nights spent by international tourists decreased by 5.4% and that of nights spent by domestic tourists by 1.5% compared to the same period of the previous year in commercial accommodation establishments (hotels, boarding houses, camping sites, bungalows and community hostels). Considering seasonal and calendar effects, the number of foreign tourism nights fell by 4.5% and of domestic tourism nights grew by 0.4%. Total gross sales revenues rose by 4.7% at current prices in commercial accommodation establishments.

In July 2019, compared to the same month of the previous year:

The number of international tourist arrivals decreased by 2.4% and of international tourism nights by 5.4%. 687 thousand guests spent nearly 1.9 million tourism nights in commercial accommodation establishments. The number of the latter ones decreased in all types of accommodation except community hostels. Foreign guests spent half of their tourism nights in the Budapest-Central Danube region and 23% at Lake Balaton.

Domestic arrivals and tourism nights were both 1.5% down to 846,000 arrivals and 2.5 million tourism nights. The value of the latter indicator increased in boarding houses and camping sites, and declined in hotels, community hostels and bungalows. Balaton was the most popular region for domestic visitors, where they spent nearly three times as many nights as in the second most popular region, Northern Hungary.

The occupancy rate of hotels was 71.7%.

Total gross sales revenues were up by 4.7% (to HUF 62 billion), within which accommodation fee revenues grew by 4.5% (to HUF 40 billion) at current prices.

With Széchenyi Recreation Card, cardholders paid a total of HUF 4.8 billion in commercial accommodation establishments, an increase of 45%.

On 31 July 2019, compared to the same date of the previous year:

131 units fewer, 3,406 commercial accommodation establishments were in operation with 97 thousand available rooms and 343 thousand bed-places.

In January–July 2019, compared to the same period of the previous year:

The number of tourism nights registered by commercial accommodation establishments decreased by 0.5% to a total of 17.4 million. International guests spent 0.6% (8.6 million) and domestic guests 0.4% (8.8 million) fewer tourism nights at commercial accommodation establishments.

Room occupancy in hotels declined by 0.1 percentage point to 59.5%.

The total gross sales revenues of commercial accommodation establishments were HUF 300 billion, 8.0% more at current prices.
