The number of tourism nights grew nearly four-fold compared to November 2020 and decreased by 39% compared to the same month of 2019

The number of nights spent by domestic guests at commercial accommodation establishments1 (hotels, boarding houses, camping sites, bungalow complexes and community hostels) increased – mainly due to the low base caused by the introduction of pandemic restrictions – more than two-and-a-half-fold in November compared to the same month of 2020, however, it was 36% below the November 2019 figure, preceding the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Although the number of nights spent by foreign guests rose eight-fold, it was even so 43% less than in the same period of 2019.

In November 2021 compared to same month of previous year:

The number of domestic tourist arrivals grew three-fold and that of tourism nights over two-and-a-half-fold. The former was 292 thousand and the latter 644 thousand. 78% of the nights were spent at hotels, their number rising three-fold compared to a year earlier. There were over one and a half times as many tourism nights at boarding houses and community hostels and more than twice as many at bungalow complexes and camping sites compared to November last year. The two most popular tourism regions, having about the same share, were Lake Balaton and the Budapest–Central Danube Region, with nearly one-fifth of domestic tourism nights registered in both regions.

The number of international tourist arrivals at accommodation establishments rose eleven-fold, to 229 thousand, and that of international tourism nights eight-fold, to a total 622 thousand. 88% of tourism nights were spent at hotels, which was an eight-and-a-half-fold growth compared to November 2020. The most popular tourism region was the Budapest–Central Danube Region, where two-thirds of international tourism nights were registered.

Total gross sales revenues grew more than four-fold, to HUF 28 billion at current prices.

In November 2021:

1,917 commercial accommodation establishments, including 733 hotels and 777 boarding houses, were open for part of or all over the month.

Domestic guests accounted for 51% of all tourism nights.

Széchenyi Recreation Card holders paid 180% more, a total of HUF 1.7 billion by their card at commercial accommodation establishments.

In January–November 2021 compared to same period of previous year:

Commercial accommodation establishments registered 4.0% more, a total of 14 million tourism nights. Domestic guests spent 0.8% and foreign ones 12% more (respective 9.9 million and 4.2 million) tourism nights at commercial accommodation establishments.

The total gross sales revenues of commercial accommodation establishments were up by 14% at current prices and amounted to HUF 262 billion.
