The number of tourism nights grew by 1.3% compared to September 2021

In September 2022, 917 thousand guests spent 2.2 million tourism nights in commercial accommodation establishments1 (hotels, boarding houses, camping sites, bungalow complexes and community hostels). The number of guests rose by 3.8% and that of nights by 1.3% compared to the same period of the previous year. Compared to September 2021, the number of nights spent by domestic guests decreased by 13% and that of nights spent by foreign guests increased by 25%. In January-September 2022, domestic guests spent 25% more tourism nights and foreign guests 157% more tourism nights than in the same period last year.

In September 2022 compared to same month of previous year:

The number of domestic tourist arrivals fell by 9.6% and that of tourism nights by 13%. The former was 542 thousand and the latter 1.2 million. 69% of the nights were spent at hotels, where the number of tourism nights was 13% lower than a year earlier. Turnover in boarding houses and community hostels decreased by 16% and 7.9% respectively compared to September last year. The two most popular tourist regions, Lake Balaton and the Budapest–Central Danube Region, recorded 25% and 19% of domestic tourism nights respectively.

International tourist arrivals increased by 32% and tourism nights by 25%. A total of 375 thousand guests stayed in accommodation establishments for just over 1.0 million nights. 75% of these nights were spent in hotels, where the number of nights spent increased by 26% compared to September 2021. The most popular tourism region was the Budapest–Central Danube Region, where 54% of international tourism nights were registered.

Total gross sales revenues at current prices increased by 23% to HUF 42 billion.

Cardholders paid 31% less, HUF 2.1 billion, with their Széchenyi Recreation Cards in commercial accommodation.

In September 2022:

2,657 commercial accommodation establishments, including 922 hotels and 1,118 boarding houses, were open for part or all of the month.

53% of all tourism nights were spent by domestic guests.

In January-September 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year:

The number of tourism nights spent in commercial accommodation increased by 58% to 21 million. Domestic guests spent 25% more nights in commercial accommodation and foreign guests 157% more (12 million and 8.6 million respectively).

Total gross sales revenues of commercial accommodation at current prices increased by 83% to HUF 344 billion.
