Unemployment rate was 3.9%

In July 2021, the number of unemployed1 was 189 thousand and the unemployment rate was 3.9%2. In the May-July 2021 period, the average number of unemployed persons was 197 thousand and the unemployment rate was 4.1%.

In May–July 2021, compared to a year before:

The number of unemployed persons aged 15-74 decreased by 27 thousand and their unemployment rate by 0.6 percentage points. Among men, the number of unemployed persons was 103 thousand and the unemployment rate decreased by 0.6 percentage points to 4.0%, while among women, the number of unemployed persons decreased to 94 thousand and the unemployment rate decreased by 0.6 percentage points to 4.2%.

The number of unemployed 15-24 year olds fell to 46 thousand, and their unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 14.7%. More than one fifth of all unemployed were young people. The unemployment rate for 25-54 year olds fell by 0.6 percentage points to 3.4% and for 55-74 year olds by 0.5 percentage points to 2.9%.

The average time spent looking for a job was 8.7 months and 33.8% of the unemployed had been looking for a job for at least a year.

According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the number of registered jobseekers decreased by 28.4% to 262 thousand.
