Unemployment rate was 3.6%

In April 2022, the number of unemployed1 was 176 thousand and the unemployment rate was 3.6%2. In the February-April 2022 period, the average number of unemployed persons was 170 thousand and the unemployment rate was 3.5%.

In February-May 2022, compared to a year before:

The number of unemployed persons aged 15–74 decreased by 36 thousand and their unemployment rate by 0.8 percentage points. Among men, the number of unemployed persons was 95 thousand and the unemployment rate decreased by 0.5 percentage points to 3.7%. Among women the number of unemployed was 75 thousand and their unemployment rate fell by 1.2 percentage points to 3.3%.

The number of unemployed people aged 15-24 fell to 30 thousand, and their unemployment rate by 2.5 percentage points to 10.0%, but they still accounted for 17.5% of the total unemployed. The unemployment rate for the 25-54 age group fell by 0.8 percentage points to 3.1%, while that of the 55-74 age group was practically unchanged at 3.2%.

The average time spent looking for a job was 9.2 months and 34.7% of the unemployed had been looking for a job for at least a year.

According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the number of registered jobseekers decreased by 16.0% to 242 thousand.
