More deaths and higher natural decrease in October compared to previous month

In January–October 2020, 4.7% more children were born and 1.5% fewer people died, as a result of which the natural decrease was 15% lower according to preliminary data than a year earlier. In October 2020, the number of live births rose to a relatively low extent and that of deaths at a considerably higher rate on the same month of 2019, so the natural decrease was up by 50%. There were 6.1% fewer live births and the number of deaths increased significantly, by 19% in October 2020 compared to the previous month, the natural decrease rising from 1,654 in September 2020 to 4,129 in October 2020.

In October 2020:1

7,984 children were born, 2.3% or 179 more than in October 2019.

12,113 people lost their lives, 15% or 1,549 more than a year earlier, which may be due to the increasing number of deaths caused by the corona virus infection.

The number of deaths rose to a higher extent than the number of births, and due to this the natural decrease over the month was 4,129, which was a growth of 50% on 2,759 in October 2019.

The number of marriages went up; 6,566 couples got married, 17% or 935 more than in October 2019.

In January–October 2020:

77,596 children were born, 4.7% or 3,499 more than in January–October 2019. Within this, the number of live births was 8.8% more in January–February, 2.3% more in March–May, 9.1% more in June and 3.6% more in July–October compared to the corresponding periods of 2019.

The total fertility rate was estimated at 1.57 per female, compared with 1.48 for January–October 2019.

There were 106,723 deaths, 1.5% or 1,583 fewer than one year earlier. 13% fewer people died in January–February and 2.0% fewer in May–July, while 1.8% more in March–April, 2.1% more in August–September and 15% more in October than a year earlier.

Despite the significant rise in the number of deaths in October, the number of deaths lessened as a whole compared to the same period of the previous year. Because of this and the rise in the number of births, the natural decrease was 29,127, which was 15% fewer compared to 34,209 in January–October 2019.

60,333 couples got married, which was 4.4% or 2,541 more marriages. 101% more marriages were registered in January–March, 8.9% more in April and 8.3% more in September–October, while 15% fewer in May–August than in the corresponding periods of 2019.

There were 9.5 live births and 13.1 deaths per thousand population. The former was 0.4 per mille point higher and the latter 0.2 per mille point lower compared to the period of January–October 2019. As a result of all this, the 3.6 per mille rate of the natural decrease was 0.6 per mille point lower than one year earlier. The number of infant deaths was 3.4 per thousand live births in January–October 2020, which was 0.3 per mille point fewer than in January–October of the previous year. The marriage rate was 7.4 per mille, 0.3 per mille point more compared to the same period of 2019.
