7,621 children born and 9,764 people lose their lives in June

In June 2021, 7,621 children were born and 9,764 people died according to preliminary data. Compared to June 2020, the number of live births decreased by 1.6% and that of deaths rose by 0.4%. 7,742 couples got married, which was 31% more than in the same period of the previous year. In terms of the trends of vital events in the last twelve months, i.e. between July 2020 and June 2021, the number of births was 0.5%, that of deaths 24% and the number of marriages 6.1% higher than one year earlier.

In June 2021:

A total of 7,621 children were born, 1.6% less or 122 fewer than in June 2020.

9,764 people lost their lives, 0.4% or 41 more than a year earlier. Following a significant rise in the spring, the number of deaths returned to the level of Junes in previous years.

The number of deaths was roughly the same as in the corresponding period of the previous year, while the number of births slightly decreased, as a result of which the natural decrease went up by 8.2% and was 2,143 as opposed to 1,980 in June 2020.

The number of marriages grew significantly; 7,742 couples got married, which was 31% or 1,840 more than in June 2020.

In January–June 2021:

44,069 children were born, which was 0.6% less or 280 fewer than in January–June 2020. Within this, there were 9.4% less live births in January and 1.5% less in April–June, and 1.4% more in February and 10% more in March compared to the corresponding months of 2020.

The total fertility rate was estimated at 1.51 per female, compared with 1.50 for January–June 2020.

There were 79,844 deaths, 23% or 15,074 more than one year earlier. 17% more people died in January, 6.4% more in February, 50% more in March–April, 11% more in May and 0.4% more in June than in the same periods of the previous year.

The number of deaths substantially went up, while that of births slightly decreased, as a result of which the natural decrease was 35,775 as opposed to 20,421 in January–June 2020, which was a rise of 75%.

31,765 couples got married, which was 19% or 4,991 more than a year earlier. 7.0% less marriages were registered in January–February, following which 5.2% more in March, 29% more in April, 49% more in May and 31% more in June than in the corresponding months of 2020.

There were 9.1 live births and 16.6 deaths per thousand population. The rate of live births was about the same as and that of deaths 3.2 per mille points higher than in January–June 2020, as a result of which the rate of natural decrease was up by 3.2 per mille points to 7.4 per mille. The number of infant deaths was 3.1 per thousand live births in January–June 2021, which was a decline of 0.9 per mille point compared to the same period of the previous year. The marriage rate was 6.6 per mille, which was a 1.1-per-mille-point growth compared to the corresponding period of 2020.

The number of births decreased in Budapest (8.1%), Northern Hungary (0.6%) and Pest Region (0.2%) and rose in the rest of the regions compared to the same period of the previous year. The highest growth was in Central Transdanubia (7.2%) and the lowest one in Northern Great Plain (0.3%).

The number of deaths went up in all regions: at the highest rate, by 31% in Southern Transdanubia and the least, by 17% in Budapest.

Owing to larger rises in deaths than births, the natural decrease grew in all regions: the most in Pest Region (138%) and Northern Great Plain (107%) and at the lowest rates in Central Transdanubia (52%) and Southern Great Plain (54%).

The number of marriages rose in all regions: the most significantly, by 26% in Western and Central Transdanubia each and the least, by 8.4% in Budapest.
