8,178 children born and 9,678 people lose their lives in August

In August 2021, 8,178 children were born and 9,678 people died according to preliminary data. Compared to August 2020, the number of live births was up by 0.4% and that of deaths decreased by 2.7%. 9,249 couples got married, which was 12% less than in the same period of the previous year.

In August 2021:

A total of 8,178 children were born, 0.4% or 36 more than in August 2020.

9,678 people lost their lives, 2.7% less or 271 fewer than a year earlier.

The number of deaths decreased, while that of births slightly went up, as a result of which the natural decrease lessened by 17% and was 1,500 as opposed to 1,807 in August 2020.

9,249 couples got married, which was 12% less or 1,219 fewer than in August 2020. The relatively large decline may have been due to the calendar effect, since there was one less weekend this August than in August last year.

In January–August 2021:

60,620 children were born, which was 0.9% less or 533 fewer than in January–August 2020. Within this, there were 9.4% less live births in January and 2.0% less in April–July and 1.4% more in February, 10% more in March and 0.4% more in August compared to the corresponding months of 2020.

The total fertility rate was estimated at 1.55 per female, which is equal to the value calculated for January–August 2020.

There were 100,591 deaths, 19% or 16,070 more than one year earlier. 17% more people died in January, 6.5% more in February, 51% more in March–April and 7.9% more in May–July and 2.7% less in August than in the same periods of the previous year.

The number of deaths substantially rose, while that of births slightly decreased, as a result of which the natural decrease was 39,971 as opposed to 23,368 in January–August 2020, which was a rise of 71%.

50,618 couples got married, which was 13% or 5,887 more than a year earlier. 7.0% less marriages were registered in January–February and 12% less in August and 5.2% more in March, 29% more in April, 49% more in May and 30% more in June–July than in the corresponding months of 2020.

There were 9.4 live births and 15.6 deaths per thousand population. The rate of live births was nearly the same as and that of deaths 2.6 per mille points higher than in January–August 2020, as a result of which the rate of natural decrease was up by 2.6 per mille points to 6.2 per mille. The number of infant deaths was 3.2 per thousand live births in January–August 2021, which was a decline of 0.3 per mille point compared to one year earlier. The marriage rate was 7.8 per mille, which was a 1.0-per-mille-point growth compared to the same period of 2020.

In terms of the trends of vital events in the last twelve months, i.e. between September 2020 and August 2021, the number of births was 0.2% lower, while that of deaths 25% and the number of marriages 9.7% higher than a year earlier.
