In October 2021, 8,289 children were born and 11,252 people died according to preliminary data. Compared to October 2020, the number of live births was up by 3.1% and that of deaths decreased by 10%. 5,293 couples got married, which was 19% less than in the same month of the previous year.

A total of 8,289 children were born, 3.1% or 248 more than in October 2020.
11,252 people lost their lives, 10% less or 1,252 fewer than in October 2020. The start of the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic fell on October 2020, because of which the significant decrease was caused by the high base value. 6.5% or 688 more people died, however, compared to the corresponding period of 2019.
The number of deaths was lower, while that of births slightly higher than in the same month last year, as a result of which the natural decrease lessened by 34% and was 2,963 as opposed to 4,463 in October 2020.
5,293 couples got married, which was 19% less or 1,237 fewer than in October 2020.
In January–October 2021:
77,687 children were born, which was merely 21 fewer than in January–October 2020. Within this, 9.4% less children were born in January and 2.0% less in April–July and 5.8% more in February–March and 2.2% more in August–October than in the corresponding months of 2020.
The total fertility rate was estimated at 1.59 per female, compared with 1.57 for January–October 2020.
There were 122,622 deaths, which was 14% or 15,364 more than one year earlier. 12% more people died in January–February, 51% more in March–April and 9.1% more in May–July and 0.6% less in August–September and 10% less in October than in the same periods of the previous year.
The number of deaths substantially rose, while that of births slightly decreased, as a result of which the natural decrease was 44,935 as opposed to 29,550 in January–October 2020, which was a rise of 52%.
63,822 couples got married, which was 6.1% or 3,678 more than a year earlier. 7.0% less marriages were registered in January–February, 11% less in August–September and 19% less in October and 5.2% more in March and 33% more in April–July than in the corresponding months of 2020.
There were 9.6 live births and 15.2 deaths per thousand population. The rate of live births was nearly the same as and that of deaths 2.0 per mille points higher than in January–October 2020, as a result of which the rate of natural decrease was up by 1.9 per mille points to 5.6 per mille. The number of infant deaths was 3.2 per thousand live births in January–October 2021, which was 0.2 per mille point less than in the same period of the previous year. The marriage rate was 7.9 per mille, which was a 0.5 per mille point growth compared to the corresponding months of 2020.
In terms of the trends of vital events in the last twelve months, i.e. between November 2020 and October 2021, the number of births went down by 0.5%, while that of deaths was 22% and the number of marriages 4.7% higher than a year earlier.
