6,484 children born and 10,852 people lose their lives in April

In April 2022, 6,484 children were born and 10,852 people died according to preliminary data. In the last twelve months, i.e. between May 2021 and April 2022, the number of births diminished by 2.7% and that of deaths by 6.7%, while the number of marriages increased by 3.4% compared to the period one year earlier.

In April 2022:

A total of 6,484 children were born, 7.6% less or 530 fewer than a year earlier.

10,852 people lost their lives, 30% less or 4,726 fewer than in April 2021. The reason for the significant decrease was the high base value in April last year, in the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. This year’s value was 5.6% higher compared to April 2019, the corresponding month in the last year before the pandemic.

The natural decrease was 4,368, as opposed to 8,564 in April 2021.

5,007 couples got married, which was 0.8% less or 38 fewer than in April 2021.

Between May 2021 and April 2022:

89,875 children were born in the last twelve months, 2,470 fewer or 2.7% less than in the previous twelve months. Within this year, the number of births decreased by 10% in January and March, by 15% in February and by 7.6% in April compared to the same period of 2021.

The total fertility rate was estimated at 1.54 per female, compared with 1.57 in the previous twelve months.

There were 144,633 deaths, 6.7% less or 10,412 fewer than in the previous twelve months. The number of deaths was down by 4.3% in January and by 31% in March–April and grew by 4.7% in February this year compared to the corresponding months of 2021.

The number of births decreased to a lower extent than that of deaths, as a result of which the natural decrease was 54,758, which was a decrease of 13% compared to the value of 62,700 in the previous twelve months.

70,255 couples got married, 3.4% or 2,293 more than in the previous twelve months. There were 10% less marriages in January–April this year, within which 20% less marriages were registered in January, 14% less in February, 12% less in March and 0.8% less in April than in the same months of 2021.

There were 9.3 live births and 14.9 deaths per thousand population. The rate of live births was 0.2 per mille point and that of deaths 1.0 per mille point lower than in May 2020–April 2021, as a result of which the rate of natural decrease was down by 0.8 per mille point to 5.7 per mille. The number of infant deaths was 3.3 per thousand live births, 0.1 per mille point larger than in the previous twelve months. The marriage rate was 7.2 per mille, 0.3 per mille point higher than in the period one year earlier.
