Construction output volume decreased by 0.4% in February 2026 year-on-year and grew by 4.9% compared to the previous month
Construction output volume, based on both raw and working day adjusted data, was 0.4% lower than a year earlier. Among the main construction groups the construction of buildings increased by 2.2%, that of civil engineering lessened by 6.3%. Based on seasonally and working day adjusted indices construction output was above the January 2026 level by 4.9%.
In February 2026 compared to the same month of the previous year:
Output of the two main groups of construction changed in opposite directions: the construction of buildings rose by 2.2%, civil engineering lessened by 6.3%. Two opposite processes are in the background of the latter: while output of the road and railway construction group increased by 37.6% that of utility projects fell by 41.6%.
Among the divisions of construction the construction of buildings increased by 15.0% year-on-year. Civil engineering was 2.4% lower, production in specialised construction activities, having the largest weight in construction, lessened by 9.3%.
The volume of new contracts concluded lagged behind the one year earlier level by 44.8%, within it the volume of contracts for the construction of buildings decreased by 38.7%, those for civil engineering works lessened by 51.5%.
The volume of the end-of-February stock of contracts at construction enterprises was 9.5% higher than in February 2025, within it the volume of contracts for the construction of buildings went down by 0.9%, and grew by 14.4% for civil engineering works.
In the first two months of the year
Construction output volume was by 5.7% lower than a year ago.
