4 million 669 thousand people in employment, unemployment rate at 4.3%

In May 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4 million 669 thousand. The number of unemployed persons was 210 thousand and the unemployment rate 4.3%.1

Employment, March–May 2025

In the period March-May 2025, the average number of employed persons aged 15–74 was 4 million 673 thousand, 38 thousand fewer than a year earlier. The number of employed was down by 18 thousand among males, to 2 million 478 thousand, and by 20 thousand among females, to 2 million 195 thousand.

4 million 501 thousand people worked in the domestic primary labour market, 44 thousand fewer than in the same period of the previous year, while the number of public workers and those working abroad did not change significantly, at 66 thousand and 106 thousand respectively.2

The employment rate for 15-64 year olds was practically unchanged compared to the same period of the previous year at 75.1%, with a simultaneous decrease in the population and employment. The rate was 78.9% for men and 71.2% for women.

Unemployment, March–May 2025

In the period March–May 2025, the number of unemployed people aged 15–74 was 212 thousand, with an unemployment rate of 4.3%.2

The number of unemployed was 117 thousand for males and 95 thousand for females. The rate was essentially the same for both sexes as in March–May of the previous year, with 4.5% for men and 4.1% for women.

The average duration of job search was 12.8 months, 42.1% of all unemployed had been looking for a job for less than 3 months, while 33.2% had not found a job for at least a year.

According to the administrative data of the National Employment Service (https://nfsz.munka.hu/), the number of registered job seekers at the end of May 2025 decreased by 1.4% to 223 thousand compared to a year earlier.
